The Food Court
The Lassen Union High School Food Services department is dedicated to providing nutritious meals to all students and offers grab-and-go as well as eat-in breakfast and lunch choices to give our students what they need to start their day and keep them going!
It has been proven that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and provides us with the brain power we need to get us through the morning!
The Lassen High Food Court is an inviting place for students to come. They can have a nutritious meal at a reasonable price while enjoying the company of their friends. We begin serving breakfast at 7:30 am. Students also have another chance to grab breakfast during the scheduled nutrition break.
Offer Vs. Serve: Students are offered all five menu components (protein, vegetable, fruit, grain, milk) daily for lunch. Of the five items offered, each student must select three items including at least 1/2 cup fruit or vegetable. Due to USDA regulations effective July 1, 2012 all students in grades 1-12 must select a fruit or vegetable in addition to or as one of the three items. USDA has implemented these changes to encourage students to eat more fruits and vegetables. If students do not choose a fruit or vegetable to complete their lunch, they will be charged a la carte pricing.
For example, instead of $3.75 for a complete lunch, if the student only wanted the entree and a water, then they would be charged the Entree a la carte price of $2.75, and the a la carte price of $0.50 for a small bottled water, for a total of $3.25. The full meal is a better value and is priced as such to encourage it. The price list for a la carte pricing can be found in the “Snack Prices” section.
Extra Entrée: Extra entrees may be purchased after the purchase of a full lunch for $2.75
Beverages: Milk is included with all full lunches. Milk choices are: 1% White Milk, and fat free flavored milk.
Studies have suggested a strong link between child nutrition and learning in school. This supports the importance of the availability of school meal programs in improving the educational performance of our children. Lassen High offers healthy meals every school day. Children from families with incomes at or below 130% of the poverty level, children from families receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and children in families receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are eligible for free lunches. Children in families whose income is between 130% and 185% of the poverty level are eligible for reduced price lunches.
